Mission Oz – Imara - Transforming Tanzania through Christ

Mission Oz is a Holistic Ministry that strengthens the Church, encouraging, resourcing and equipping leaders to bring transformation to  their communities. Imara is changing the face of the Church in northern Tanzania.

Mike and Lyndal Rothery have been working in Tanzania since 1993 and have established a large network of relationships whereby they are effectively resourcing and equipping over 1000 Pastors!  They have developed a strong local ministry team of over 20 people working in four major areas:

PASTOR AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

IMARA Ministry Foundation reached 2,000 pastors last year through seminars and meetings throughout Northern and Central Tanzania. The focus is unity among the churches, discipleship, equipping pastors and support and encouragement. IMARA uses an innovative program that teaches the practical principles of discipleship to a core group of pastors, who will then begin their own discipleship programs in their churches and communities.

Imara is a trans-denominational ministry  that models unity, trust and openness.  God is using Imara to break down barriers to God bringing revival and health to His Church in Tanzania.
EVANGELISM

IMARA facilitates two or more Evangelistic Crusades per month in unreached villages or as support to the local churches in remote locations. This often involves the use of film using a video projector.  This ministry has not only been a blessing to hundred of local churches but also has been a wonderful vehicle to train and release many local Evangelsits that God is raising up.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND RELIEF AID
The focus is holistic and endeavours to resource the local people in Community Development.  The main areas have been building houses for widows to take in AIDS orphans, building Christian Schools, small business loans.  This is all overseen by a local committee who set the goals and are accountable to each other for the maintenance of the projects.  Over 20 houses have been built and 3 schools.  It has been far better to build a house and  help support a widow to take in extra children from the village than to take them away to an orphanage.  In the past there have been many children who have lost contact with their tribal land and inheritance in this way.  There have been very many small business projects that have become self sufficient.

Imara often is also involved in Famine and Emergency Relief as Drought and other needs arise.
HIV/AIDS MINISTRY

With the HIV/AIDS pandemic plaguing the whole of Sub-Saharan Africa, IMARA is using culturally relevant, Christian-based teachings to equip and resource the church to meet this dire need in their local communities local communities.  This ministry has grown exponentially in the last couple of years to the point where the team now mainly focus on training workers nominated by local village leaders who then return to their villages to take up a HIV/AIDS ministry and training role in their local area.

Their ministry in many faceted from teaching preventative education using drama and music to practical help and prayer for people dying of AIDS and their families.  The Imara team continue to mentor and resource these workers with materials and support.
